washing machine drainage options

Not sure about the washing machine drainage options? Well, worry no more!

A washing machine is among the most common and useful home gadgets found in every home. However, talking about the washing machine, most homeowners worry about how to drain a washing machine or select the best drainage options.

The reason is that draining the dirty and used water from the washer drain hose and replacing it with fresh water during the recycle cycle is the most crucial function of washing machines.

Washing machines use a significant amount of water. In addition, the used or dirty water has to be removed properly. However, the drainage depends on your situation because there are several washing machine drainage options one could use.

To make room for more dirty clothes, you need to drain them properly. You can consider pumping your washing machine into the waste disposal tank of your septic system before adding more dirty household items to it.

That said, let’s have a look at several washing machine drainage options.

1: Dedicated drain pipe

One of the most options to drain a washing machine is through a committed drain pipe. A sink channel may not always be enough to get the job done.

A dedicated drain pipe is bigger in dimensions than a sink channel. It is attached at a higher rise on the washing machine making it difficult to be damaged. Its wider dimensions allow for more water flow, making it easier to drain water.

 2: Utility sink

A utility sink will help you if you want to wash excessively dirty clothes. Raincoats or other heavy garments overtime accumulate a lot of dirt and mud, and it can be a disaster to wash them. Your normal sink may flood and clog since it won’t be able to handle an excessive volume of water.

Due to its larger drain, a utility sink shall handle this much better. If you buy a utility sink made out of better quality material, it won’t stain easily as well.

3: Clothing tub

A clothing tub can be an excellent option to deal with excess drainage. Your clothing tub shall be placed right next to the washer and beneath the washer drain hose.

When the cycle is running, and the clothes are being cleaned, the excess water shall be drained from the tub. A lot of cloth washer producers shall recommend you a clothing tub as their choice of drainage.

4: Underground line and washing machine hose

This is a much more permanent solution to your drainage problems. This method utilizes an underground line that shall be connected to your washing machine hose.

The water shall be pushed from your hose into this line. Your underground line will then carry this water to the exit point outside the premises.

5: Standpipe

A standpipe can be the perfect drainage option for you if you don’t have much space available. It is a much more affordable method, and you can also install a standpipe yourself if you know basic plumbing.

The standpipe will be directly connected to the hose and will drain the water out of the hose.

Which Drainge Options of Washing Machine Should You Select?

Stuck with a machine that has ineffective drainage? Well, now you shall have to decide upon a washing machine drainage option. The drainage option shall depend on your situation and personal preference. If you want a simpler and cheaper option, then a standpipe shall be your best bet.

If you want a permanent and clean solution, then install an underground pipe. A laundry tub or a utility sink will be your perfect solution if you have a lot of space available at hand.

How to Drain a Sashing Machine Properly?

Most people simply assume that drainage happens automatically when using a washing machine, and it does to a certain extent – if the pump is working correctly.

However, if a washing machine has broken down or if you’ve moved it without emptying all of the water, in either case, we need to take some extra time to collect any leftover water left inside this appliance.

The following easy guide will show you precisely how to empty your washing machine completely until the final drop is out.

1: Inspect the door switch

Your washer is connected to an external power source. Make sure that the door switch is turned off.

Also, check if the lid switch is working or not. If it’s not making a sound upon switching, then it’s probably in need of a repair.

2: Check the washing machine drain hose

The washing machine drain hose is usually found at the back of the washer. Turn off the water supply to the washer and then clean the washer drain hose.

Detach the drain hose from the pipe and hold it steadily to avoid excess spilling of water

3: Washing machine drain hose extension

Check the drain hose extension to remove the excess water that has been collected.

If you have a utility sink installed, be sure to clean it after you remove the dirty water.

Check for any clogs and remove any if you find one.

4: Clear the clogged pump

Check the washer pump to check for any clog or leak. You will notice unusual voices or observe a leak of water in case your pump is clogged.

Go through your instruction manual, which shall provide you with an overview of your pump. Contact a professional in case you cannot figure out what to do.

5: Drive Belt

Belts in the washer are usually behind the access panel. Remove the access panel and check the drive belt and the pump belt to see if any of them is causing an issue.

The manual provided to your by your manufacturer shall help you throughout this process. In case the belt is damaged, be sure to get it changed.

Final Takeaway:

The right washing machine drain hose extension can make your life much easier. It will deal with the excess water and keep your laundry area clean. Be sure to access all your needs and have the right drainage option installed.
